Gelato Crawl

An ongoing tradition this summer here in Florence is a weekly "Gelato walk" (Gelato is Italy's famous ice cream) lead by one of the teachers here and his wife. They take us to a different place(s) each week and give us one significant fact about that place and why their gelato is some of the best in Florence.

Well, as the last week of the Gelato walk, last night was a regular walk but on a much larger scale where we visited every place that had been previously been visited in the past 6 weeks. It was dubbed the "Gelato crawl" and included a total of 10 destinations where you were supposed to get a bowl or cone at each. We were given numbers, like runners get in marathons, maps, and log books. 10 people were even awarded silver gelato spoons for being "expert gelato eaters". We created quite a ruckus in the city, with 50+ of us strolling through the city, numbered and turning green from too much sugar and ice cream. I only had 1.5 bowls and felt rather sick after them. There were 4 or 5, however, that made it all the way through...

Some people have "pub crawls", we have "gelato crawls"....quite the positive alternative if you ask me :)
