Prague: Saturday to Sunday
After waking up at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday morning, I sleepily found my way down the the bar at the hostel where they served breakfast and enjoyed a piece of bread with jam :) The same group I was with the day before decided to stick together for another day, which turned out to be so much fun.
We started walking (again) but shortly after decided that the awesome public transportation system would be our best bet for getting the maximum done for the day. We attempted to understand the lines and numbers that they seem to call a bus schedule, but failed miserably. So, while I enjoyed a vanilla milkshake at the McDonalds right next to the train station, the boys of the group decided what bus to take.
The correct bus that would take us right downtown pulled up just as I was slurping the last drips of my milkshake...oh man it is great to travel with people with good directional sense because mine is non-existant.
After a short, and crowded, train ride, we arrived in the main shopping district of the city. We decided that since we spent one very full day seeing the sights, we might as well take advantage of the cheap prices and look for gifts for our loved ones, among others :) So we started walking and shopping and saw some interesting things. Here, let me elaborate.
1. A large sculpture (large as in probably over 20 feet tall) of a womans feet with her underwear around her ankles. As you well know, I have discovered that Europe is quite a bit more comfortable with sexuality than the U.S.A. (or at least they show their comfort more). So, the boys in the group got quite excited to take a picture and "look up" while sitting in between the feet. What they didn't really realize, I don't think, is that is was just feet. Did they REALLY think they would see anything?
2. Right by the underwear statue, we noticed a mom and her young female offspring. The little girl had her pants down, typical situation of a diaper change...or so we thought. As the scenario played out before our eyes, we saw the mom pick up the little girl, hold her so her knees were against her chest, stick her bottom against the street pole (those that people lean against to rest)and.....the next thing we saw was a rainbow stream of pee richocheting off the pole. Appetizing huh? All I could do was laugh. Never before in my life had I EVER seen a little girl peeing, with her mom's consent and assistance, in a public place nonetheless.
3. For all of you 90210 fans out there, while we were walking down one of the main busy streets in Prague, we happen to notice a group of students that were travelling with us running across a busy street, dodging cars, and giddily laughing to themselves. Come to find out, a Mr. Jason Priestly (is that how you spell it??) yelled "Go Zags" to one of the girls with a GU sweatshirt on and gave her a big 'High-5' as he walked past. When she finally realized it was him, she flipped out and that is when we saw her and her whole group running across the street. Well, when we found out, the girls in my group went running to find him as well. I had no idea what was going on and since I have never watched an episode of 90210 in my life, it wasn't too important for me to take a picture with him. He was a nice guy, probably pretty excited to that groups of college girls went running across busy street and through crowds just to take a picture with him halfway across the world from where we all live. One thing I did find out though, he is short...REALLY short...5'6" max...and he is filming a movie...and he doesn't look to good with a mustache.
To sum up the remainder of our day, we walked around for an obscenely long time again, watched the soccer games, went to dinner at TGIFriday's (VERY VERY good food that reminded me of home) and took the long route back to the hostel via two wrong buses. It was a great day in Prague...one of my favorite cities in the world :)
Sunday, as one very very tired girl, I woke up and we were all out the door by 9 a.m. and on the bus back to Florence. It was a long busride, obviously, and we finally got in about 2:30 a.m. But Prague, the busride, the celebrity sightings, and the food and fun and festivites was all worth...a memorable weekend for sure :)
