Barcelona: A city that NEVER sleeps
We left Interlaken on a 2:44 train to two little towns and ended up in Milan where we bought tuna and saltines and had a feast for dinner. At 6:30 pm we boarded a train that was to travel from Milan, Italy to Barcelona, Spain allll night long while we slept in our very expensive sleeper cars :)
The boys and girls were separated, for obvious reason on a train, and Mary and I ended up with two very nice cabin mates. One from Thailand who is a hotel critic or something of the sort, and the other from a little town in Texas who goes to Texas A&M but is currently studying International Business in Barcelona. We had some good talks, good laughs, and a pretty decent sleep. The cars were much nicer than any of us had expected. They came with sheets and pillow and even our own sink and 2 (yes 2!!) deadbolts on the door. Either the deadbolts say something about the security precautions of the train or they say something about the sketchy characters they allow as passengers.
The ride turned out to be very good, and I actually slept for around 4 hours straight for the first night in about a week!! It was wonderful! We were scheduled to arrive in the train station in Barcelona around 9:10 a.m., but apparently since the line broke (that makes ya feel good), we had to go around the city, which caused about a 2.5 hour delay on the train. It didn't matter though, we were comfortable and enjoying our company in our cabin :)
We finally got to the train station and felt a wave of heat, around 90 deg., hit us. It was going to be sunny in Barcelona :) :) :) Riding the subway, we found our hostel by chance when I walked by a neon sign right off the main street Las Ramblas and said "Hey guys, that looks like a cool place..." and it just so happened to be ours!! We have a private room, which is a nice change from Interlaken where we were in dorm rooms, and our hostel is ideally located. It sits above a Plaza that is right off, literally like 20 steps off Las Ramblas, which is where all the nightlife is.
After about 3 hours at the beach (which is very nice by the way), we scoped out Subway, Mary's request, for dinner--which was the first meal in 3 days that didn't involve tuna!! When we were eating, we met up with some friends from GU here randomly and are going to the Salsa club with them tonight :) We'll see how that goes...wish me luck with my dancing skills :)
The night is just now starting...people typically don't come out until midnight and things stay open usually until around 2:30 or 3 a.m. (stores I mean) whereas clubs and stuff go until 6 a.m. in the morning!!! Crazy, huh??
